Why Polarized Sunglasses are a Must Have - June 3, 2014

Sunglasses are one of the most valuable assets to purchase when preparing for a road trip. Their importance is obvious, since they serve as protection for eyes while also providing clearer vision while driving. If you want to save yourself aggravation while driving for hours on a sunny day, as well as avoid squinting and therefore blurring your vision, then the proper eyewear is a must.

Although the primary use of sunglasses is self-explanatory (to provide shade), they also have a more technical use: sun glare. Sun glare is when direct sunlight, often suddenly unavoidable when turning around a corner or driving over hills, blinds motorists. This major hazard is a threat to the safety of both the driver, as well as other cars on the road. On summer road trips, when the days are hot and the passengers are likely otherwise distracted by friends and family, sun glare can be a dangerous cause of car accidents. Road trippers are also more likely to be driving at high-glare times, which peak during the first 15 to 45 minutes of sunrise and the last 45 minutes of sunset.

Worse yet, sun glare affects older people especially. According to a study conducted by the National Center for Statistics and Analysis at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, older drivers are more likely to get involved in crashes if glare obstructs their vision. The study shows that 38.5 percent of drivers involved in crashes related to glare exposure were of “age 45 years and older.”

A spokesman for autoinsurance.us pointed out some shocking statistics on the number of accidents caused by sun glare, and said, “It is a great idea to keep an old, or cheap, pair of sunglasses in your car at all times to combat road glare. The dangers of sun glare are doubly true in the summer, especially when driving unfamiliar routes.”

Polarized Sunglasses are the best option to reduce sun glare, since they allow you to see more details from a reflective surface, be it water, field or road while also providing an anti-glare quality. Not only that, when the glasses are on, colors become sharper and images become clearer. These glasses can be very soothing when it comes to eyes that are sensitive to the sun.

Besides sun glare, sunglasses can also protect your eyes from other harmful conditions while on the road. UV protection is key, and a strong pair of sunglasses are integral when it comes to protecting your eyes from the sun’s radiation, which can cause cataracts and skin cancer around the eyes.

There are various types of sunglasses that have the right components to protect you from harm this summer. One option would be the Photochromic Sunglasses, also known as transitional glasses, which are an especially good option for a road trippers. Since their main feature is the lenses darkening in the sun and becoming lighter indoors or with less sunlight, changing light due to time of day and driving for hours on end won’t affect drivers on long trips. These glasses are commonly worn by motorcycle enthusiasts, but can be worn by anyone seeking to take on the road while the sun is blazing. These glasses are also ideal since the transitional aspect enables you to wear just one pair of glasses throughout the day, instead of constantly changing glasses or lenses.

Sunglasses are essential to a successful summer road trip. No matter what brand of sunglasses you prefer, sunglasses are a non-negotiable necessity on long drives. Since sunglasses are very cost effective (as opposed to accident repairs) and easy to carry, there’s no reason that they wouldn’t be one of the top items on your road trip checklist.  So checkout Superflysunglasses.com today for all your eyewear needs.  We have something for the whole family!

Benefits of Photochromic Sunglasses - July 18, 2013

Photochromic Sunglasses , commonly referred to as auto darkening sunglasses, include lenses that change with the amount of light that is present.  If it's cloudy outside the lenses will change to a lighter shade of grey or clear depending on the amount of the clouds.  If it's a bright sunny day the lenses will change to a charcoal lens protecting your eyes from the harmful UV rays coming from the sun.

Photochromic sunglasses are commonly worn by motorcycle enthusiasts, but are not limited to just motorcycle enthusiasts.  This enables the rider to wear one pair of glasses instead of carrying multiple pairs of glasses that will be worn according to the weather or the time of day.  Motorcycle riders are limited on the amount of items they can carry either on their person or their saddlebags.  Limiting themselves to one pair of glasses over carrying multiple pair of glasses provides room for other more important items.

For anyone that is going to be outside in the weather, photochromic sunglasses do come in handy.  Some days it might not be as sunny as you might expect.  Your photochromic sunglasses will adjust to the amount of sun there is that particular day, enabling you to have just the right amount of color in your lenses so you can still be protected and still be able to see clearly.  Normal sunglasses can sometimes be too dark on a semi-cloudy day requiring you to take them off leaving your eyes without protection making you squint which in turn causes most people headaches.  With photochromic sunglasses the lenses will adjust to the sun or lack of sun enabling you to leave them on and protect your eyes.  Without protection, harmful UV rays will cause macular degeneration causing you to go blind in your older years.  Protect your eyes!  Do it today!

Auto Darkening Sunglasses

Photochromic Lenses, also known as auto darkening lenses, are lenses that darken on exposure to ultraviolet radiation.  When you walk indoors or the sun goes down and the UV is removed the lenses will gradually return to clear lenses.  As soon as you walk back outside or the sun comes up the lenses will gradually change to a smoke lens.

Photochromic lenses are great for motorcycle riding glasses.  The lenses make the transitions from clear to smoke and back to clear as the sun rises and goes back down at the end of the day.  This enables riders to wear the same pair of glasses throughout the day without having to carry multiple pairs of glasses for the duration of the ride.  There is no stopping to change the lenses as with interchangeable lenses, the lenses do the work for you!

Check out our auto darkening sunglasses today!  Save yourself the trouble and time, buy convenience and quality at Superflysunglasses.com!

What You Need to Know About Sunglasses

What you need to know about Sunglasses.

Sunglasses make a huge fashion statement today, but sunglasses are not all about just fashion.  Sunglasses protect your eyes from harmful UVA & UVB rays preventing macular degeneration.  Macular degeneration is a condition that results in a loss of vision due to damage to the retina.  Macular degeneration makes it difficult to read or to recognize faces.  Ways to prevent macular degeneration include the following:

 TIPS
 1.  Wear Sunglasses that offer 100% UVA & UVB Protection

2.  Wear wrap around sunglasses or bigger style sunglasses to block UV rays from all directions.

3.  When purchasing sunglasses look for a tag or a sticker on the glasses stating the lenses are   100% UVA & UVB Protected.

4.  Be sure to purchase sunglasses for your children and get them use to wearing sunglasses at a very young age.

5.  There is absolutely no point in buying $2 sunglasses, I can assure you they will not be UV protected and will serve only as an accessory to your daily outfit.

STYLES
Different activities require different styles of sunglasses.  If you are looking for something for athletic activities you want to find sport sunglasses with rubber nose pieces and rubber ends on the stems.  This will prevent slippage even if you are sweaty and/or vigorously moving about.

If you drive a lot or are planning to be around water fishing or boating, polarized sunglasses are what you need.  Polarized Sunglasses reduce the glare from water and wet surfaces such as roads and windshields.  Light reflected off of wet surfaces is horizontally polarized as opposed to scattered which creates a much more annoying band of light that is extremely bright making it hard to see.

If you are looking for riding sunglasses you have a few choices.  You can buy sunglasses with foam inside the frame which prevents debris, bugs and wind from affecting your eyesight.  These are referred to as foamerz.  You can also choose to wear wrap around sunglasses with big lenses or riding goggles with or without interchangeable lenses or photochromic lenses.  Interchangeable lens kits include clear, yellow and charcoal.  These can be used from morning to night riding by simply changing the lenses as the sunlight permits.  If you do not like the idea of having to stop to change the lens you can opt for the photochromic lenses which change colors as the sunlight changes from morning to night without any work on your part.  These type of sunglasses are also referred to as transitional sunglasses.

Last but not least, if you are looking for just casual everyday sunglasses, there are plenty of options to choose from and they too should have lenses that are 100% UVA & UVB protection.

SHAPES
There are basically five different face shapes and listed below are the typical styles that fit these shapes.

Round faces have the most curves therefore the sunglasses should have minimum curves with narrow frames and/or a wrap around frame.  The newer retro sunglasses fit round faces because the placement of the temples is higher than a lot of the latest styles today.

If you have more of a square face you should opt for curvier sunglasses such as a round or oval style.  This will help compliment the square jawline.  For men, since they do not usually wear sunglasses with curves, they should opt for sunglasses with more of an angle to help compliment the square jawline.

If you have more of the oblong face you should opt for oversized sunglasses.  The oblong face is generally wider than the normal face so you should look for wider frames as well.

If you have a wide forehead but a narrow chin you are considered to have a triangular face.  You should look for sunglasses that have rounded edges.  Wrap around frames and smaller frames are a great fit for those with triangular faces.

The oval face is the best face to have!  Oval faces can literally wear just about any style they prefer to wear.  There are no hidden rules, if you like it, wear it!

LENSES
Charcoal lenses are the more popular color choice in everyday sunglasses.  Charcoal lenses reduce glare, dims sunlight and do not change the color perception of other colors.

Yellow lenses enhance depth perception, but they also distort color perception.  Yellow lenses help to sharpen your view and are especially great for motorcycle riding and/or driving in the rain.

Green lenses help to filter out some of the blue light and are great for contrast.  Green lenses do not distort other colors and absorb UV rays.

Brown/amber lenses are great for driving in fog because they reduce the blue light making your surroundings less hazy .  Brown lenses reduce glare and increase depth perception.  Brown lenses do distort colors, but not near as much as yellow lenses.

Rose lenses improve contrast against blue or green backgrounds and filter light effectively.

If you follow these tips you should have no problem finding sunglasses that will not only fit your personality and style, but also protect your eyes, making you happy and comfortable while enjoying the outdoors.

Photochromic Sunglasses / Transitional Sunglasses

As Featured On EzineArticles
Benefits of Photochromic Sunglasses & Goggles

Although photochromic lenses are more commonly referred to as transitional lenses today, the correct term is photochromic or photochromatic. Photochromic sunglasses are commonly referred to as transitional sunglasses because of their transition from dark when outdoors to light when indoors. The definition of photochromic is capable of changing color on exposure to radiant energy and of, relating to, or utilizing the change of color shown by a photochromic substance. You may ask yourself, "How does this happen?".

Photochromic lenses have many molecules embedded in them. These molecules are transparent to visible light when in the absence of UV light, so the lenses will be light. When in the presence of UV rays, the molecules react and change shape. When this happens the molecules absorb some of the visible light causing the lens to darken. The brighter the sunlight the darker the lens.

Photochromic lenses are great for those that wear eyeglasses, who can not wear sunglasses unless they are prescription. If you wear eyeglasses and wear sunglasses when outside, you are forced to carry two pair of eyewear. For most people this is a hassle. You either break the pair you are carrying or lose them. If you choose to wear photochromics, you can wear them for eyeglasses and sunglasses. You simply buy the photochromic sunglasses, be sure they are Rx ready and take them to your local eye doctor.

Photochromic sunglasses are great for motorcycle riding sunglasses as well. So many motorcyclists are forced to carry two or even three pairs of sunglasses or goggles or interchangeable lens kits with clear, charcoal and amber color lenses. With photochromic lenses you can buy and carry just one pair of sunglasses or goggles for all day and even night riding. With photochromic lenses you do not have to pull off the side of the interstate endangering your life and maybe others to change your sunglasses or goggles. You can ride from morning to night without ever having to change your eyewear.

When purchasing photochromic lenses be aware of the money you are spending. If you buy cheap photochromic sunglasse or goggles the lenses tend to change at a much slower pace and usually do not get dark enough. They tend to darken to a grey/smoke instead of the darker charcoal lens. Some people prefer this, but in our experience most people want the lenses to change quickly and to have the charcoal lens when outdoors instead of the lighter grey lens. A lot of this will depend on how sensitive your eyes are to the sunlight. If you notice that you squint a lot when outdoors, your eyes are more sensitive to light which means you should spend the extra dollar and get a nice pair of photochromics sunglasses or goggles. You'll be happy you did.
